4) Upcoming actions in Europe
In 2008 the ESF, European Social Forum, will be arranged in Malmö, Sweden. The Swedish network Ofog has taken the initiative for a peace forum, European Peace Action, as a part of the ESF. Now we would like your support in making this a forum for developing common strategies and campaigns for peace groups and campaigns in Europe, with a focus on direct action and grassroots organising.
The forum will run between the 17- 21 September 2008 and the programme will contain presentations, discussions, cultural events, actions and networking. The peace forum will focus on 5 themes:
* Globalisation of Militarism
* NATO and the militarisation of the EU
* Militarisation of space
* Nuclear weapons
* Coordinating resistance
The over-reaching theme for the entire forum will be how to strengthen our resistance against militarisation.
During the forum there will be also be an action day with direct actions against arms companies in the region.
SPEAKERS - Confirmed So Far
Bruce Gagnon from the International Network Against Nuclear Power and Weapons in Space will be the key note speaker for the Militarisation of Space theme.
